He had the skills, the tenure, and the results. What he didn't have was the ability to walk into a room and let people see it. That changed.
The Situation
He was a Deputy Vice President at one of India's largest banks — experienced, technically accomplished, and quietly suffocating. He would sit up through the night before any presentation, anticipating every possible question, filling every gap, smoothing every edge. And then he'd walk in and still feel like he might be caught on the wrong foot.
His anxiety was not about the work. It was about exposure. He was afraid of being seen as incompetent — not because he was, but because somewhere along the way he had come to believe that the significant people in his life had concluded he wasn't quite capable of the bigger things. That belief lived inside his preparation. He over-prepared to protect himself from a version of himself he was terrified others would find.
He'd lost confidence after losing a series of contests he used to win reliably. The team around him was political; his manager found negatives rather than positives. He was carrying a heavy internal load that showed up as over-caution, avoidance of mistakes, and an inability to switch off — even on weekends, even on leave.
The Work
Aureve Core began by separating two things he had fused together: his worth as a person, and his performance on any given day. He had wired them so tightly that a single mistake or an unappreciated effort could send the entire structure into freefall. We began, carefully, to re-wire.
The sessions addressed specific patterns he'd carried from family into the office — the feeling of being treated as immature, of not being trusted with bigger tasks. These weren't background noise. They were the operating system. Once visible, they could be examined, and eventually, challenged.
The practical work focused on his communication with senior stakeholders — how to project authority, how to handle cross-questioning without it feeling like an attack, and how to let go of the compulsion to have an answer for everything before the question arrives. He stopped sitting up all night. He started walking in ready, not armoured.
